Bruce McCarrol Named 2004 Ontario PGA Teacher of the Year McCarrol, director of instruction at the King Valley Golf Club in King City ON and the King's Riding Golf Club in Aurora ON was acknowledged for his excellence as an instructor and his commitment and dedication to teaching the game of golf as a PGA professional for over 25 years. "I am so honored and proud to be recognized by the Ontario PGA for my skills as a teacher and coach. " McCarrol has been a class A member of the Canadian PGA since 1977 and in 2003 received the highest distinction possible in the association when he earned Master Professional status, an accomplishment that only 21 other professionals from a membership base of roughly 3500 across the country have achieved. Prior to teaching full time in 2001, McCarrol was the Head Professional at the Elm Ridge Golf & Country Club in Montreal from 1982-1988 and then held the same position at the York Downs Golf and Country Club in Unionville, ON from 1989-2000. In addition to his full time teaching duties, McCarrol is also the instruction editor for Ontario Golf (OG) and Equipgolf magazines. When asked how about his philosophy on teaching McCarrol stated "Teaching golf well is not easy, it takes many years and a serious commitment to learning the "science" of the golf swing so one is able to first correctly diagnose the root cause of any swing fault, and then know all of the possible combinations that will fix it. More importantly though, and by far more challenging, is mastering the "art" of communicating with every student on an individual basis, which means, being capable of saying the same thing in a dozen different ways; that's what gets results". McCarrol credits his much of his success to his mentors, "I've been incredibly fortunate during my career to have had the opportunity to build and develop my knowledge base and skills set by working and studying with some of the worlds' best instructors, including, Davis Love II, Chuck Cook, Tom Ness, Greg McHatton, Jim Flick, Craig Shankland and Martin Hall. Without these men having been kind enough to share their knowledge and experience with me I would not have been able to become the teacher I am today, and for that, I'm very grateful." The Ontario PGA is a professional service organization serving the golf professionals in Ontario and is responsible for the administration of competitive golf tournaments and golf professional support programs. The Ontario PGA is the largest regional entity or "Zone" of the nine zones that form the Canadian PGA. |
